Achieving the national CVD prevention ambitions

Too many people are still living with undetected and poorly managed atrial fibrillation (AF), high blood pressure (BP) and raised cholesterol. In 2019 Public Health England (PHE) and NHS England agreed national ambitions to address the A, B and C of secondary CVD prevention and to reduce associated health inequalities over 10 years.

The ‘ABC’ of secondary CVD prevention:
Atrial fibrillation
High Blood pressure
High Cholesterol

Core20PLUS5 is a national NHS England approach to inform action to reduce healthcare inequalities at both national and system level. The approach defines a target population – the ‘Core20PLUS’ – and identifies ‘5’ focus clinical areas requiring accelerated improvement.

CVD PREVENT AUDIT

CVD PREVENT‘ is a new national primary care audit that will automatically extract routinely held GP data. PCN-level data will support systematic quality improvement to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes related to CVD risk factors such as AF, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. NHS HEALTH CHECKS

NHS Health Checks are a systematic opportunity to identify and address CVD risk factors (including the ‘ABC’ conditions) early. Visit the NHS Health Checks homepage for commissioner and provider support, webinars and more.
